What, then, could be more vital than the study of his relationships to these people with whom he is spending his life? Sociol- ogy teaches him to understand these re- lationships, to see the ways in which man lives in his group, and to recognize the fcrces of society that shape his everyday behavior. Man has a role to fill in every group in which he moves. The interpreta- tion of that role determines the course of the group. Sociology is the science that defines and clarifies that role.
