Daddy's Little Girl
by Beth Clark
Daddy was a big man,
loved the wonders of the world.
Mommy was a woman
who loved her little girl.
Guess who changed the diapers
when baby began to cry?
Guess who left her home
with a mumbled good-bye?
Mommy did the cooking,
did the laundry and cleaning, too.
Daddy went out hunting,
went out fishing for the Blues.
Mommy played with Barbies
and colored in the books.
Daddy went bye-byes
with his bait and fishing hooks.
As the little girl grew up
with Mommy always there,
She asked where Daddy was-
Mommy said, "Oh, he's off somewhere."
When his child began to drive
was when her Daddy stayed at home.
He took her to the movies,
and bought her vanilla ice cream cones.
But Daddy tried too late
to be a part of her world.
Sadly he realized
she would never be
