SIPPING MARGARITAS
I ordered a Margarita because it's large
and I can sip it slow
giving me time to slouch
in my hurricane lamp lit corner booth . ith
and think about little things to pass the lonely time wbootheS
such as hurricane lamps, and Margaritas, and corner
in small town bars.
I could think of carving my initials
like B.J. and G.M·. did . Ie _
the day that G.M. sold his stereo to buy that motorcyc
the one they were gOing to ride off to California on
I could laugh at the goosebumps
on the arm of a sixteen year old boy
as he hands the waitress his fake I.D.
and the way the World stops turning
until she brings it back and brings his beer
I could ponder the POwer of the pyramid
of plastic melon ball shooter cups
that stood for a night as a temporary monument
to the greatness of its incoherent creator
I could marvel at the technical perfection
of the young Puerto Rican waitress
as she maneuvers through the slalom run
of tables, chairs, and nagging come-ons
without Spilling a single drop on her tray
I could remember how good life was umbrella
the way Jenny used to play with her little
pretending she was a Spanish dancer
and I with my napkin
pretending to be a matador . booth
... when we used to sit in our hurricane lamp lit corner
and sip Margaritas
and think about little things
