As Bjorn rode into the empty streets of town a look of despair stole over his
face. A steady snore filled the air, and the stifling odor of morning-.mouth prevaded
the entire town From the office of the mayor, a srnall wooden hut with the
mysterious runes Sunkist painted here and there on the boards, a low angui~hed
moan came forth, as if someone were in extreme pain. Fearing that he had arrived
too late, Bjorn drew his gilt-edged nail file from its scabbard and cautiously
entered the mayor's hut.
On the table was a bowl of delicious looking crab apples, red and ripe. Several
apples were half-eaten, however, to expose the rotten cores crawling with worms
and maggots.
It looked as if someone had eaten quite a lot before discovering that they
were rotten. Bjorn gagged, but picked up a near-by stick and returned the lump to
his stomach. Another pitiful groan came from the back of the house. Walking
stealthily to a door in the corner, Bjorn suddenly burst into the other room. There
on a dirty pastel commode sat a forlorn figure surrounded by a cloud of vapor.
His pants slouched around his ankles and his arms were crossed on his knees sup-
porting his forehead. The atmosphere of suffering was unbearable.
As Bjorn entered, the figure sat up to reveal the haggard features of the
mayor. He tried to raise his arm, failed, shook his head woefully, and moaned,
"Them apples. , . " Then he groaned and collapsed.
Staggering out into the free air, Bjorn realized that this must be part of the
pygmies' plan. With fear in his heart and his lunch rising in his throat, he searched
the rest of the town and found that the pygmies had similarly poisoned all the
people of Glerfl. The only inhabitants in any shape to fight were three small boys
who had disobeyed their mother and had not eaten their morning mush. Off in the
distance Bjorn spied a cloud of dust raised by the marching pygmy army. He
quickly grabbed the three boys, threw them on his water buffalo, and hurried back
to his tree. He rushed inside, tore open the kitchen cabinet, and amid a pile of
rusty oyster knives found what he was lOoking for: The Golden Horn of the
House of Buschl It was tarnished and dirty now because the gilt had worn o~,
but Bjorn raised it to his lips and blew. A tremendous BRONKS CHEERR!! split
the Woods and one of Bjorn's eardrums. Instantly, a small group of elves equipped
with slingshots, three fiery dragons, and wagonload of watermelons, the three
wierd sisters, and a heavy machine gun appeared in Bjorn's front yard. This con-
glomeration proceeded to trample all the poison ivy in his yard, giving him a bad
case of nerves. Nevertheless, he set about deploying his meager forces.
The two front Windows were each guarded by one of the boys, who were
armed with slingshotsrnade from Fruit-of-the-Loom waistbands. The third boy
