Baslc.efball Whistles blowing, balls swishing through nets and girls shouting encouragement to their teammates in Blanche Ward gymnasium all give evidence to the fact that basketball- whether in a class, sorority or on the inter- scholastic level-captivates the interest of W.M.C. women. The school team this year had a busy and successful season, playing St. Joseph's, Notre Dame, Goucher, Mt. St. Agnes, Villa Julie, and Towson State Teachers Col- lege. Competition was keen but friendly, and "coketails" were often held after the games. Interclass contests were highlighted by dis- plays of expert hook and set shooting and also by precision teamwork. Veterans to the basket- ball court mixed with newcomers as each player tried to bring victory to her class team. The Women's Athletic Association Board elected eight intramural participants, who ex- celled in class competition, to the honorary basketball team. Forwards selected were seniors Ann Clem mitt, Norma Lee Etzler and Anne Voshell and junior Beverly Hill. Guards making the team were seniors Carol Pettersen, Betty Reid and Joan Robinson, and junior Charlotte Prevost. 135
