Doctors told her that she was angry,
Friends advised a stiff upper lip or
faith in God.
Gazing in the mirror, she tried to
pinpoint the cause, some
remote indiscretion of her childhood.
But no thing leapt out at her,
onl y this shadow,
that numbness,
and the distant sound of clicking
against cobblestones.
