WhenGrandpa Took to Skatin'

One a.fternoon 11\ winter, when our pond
    was frozen good.,

And the air was crisp as crackers. and
     the wind just stood J

Mygrandpago~ the not1cn--th&t was
     Grandma's word-

That M would show those neighbor boys
     their skatin' was absurd.

NowGrandpa was a hearty one, slim and
     tall and straight.

I~d listened to his handsome tales 'bout
how he used to aka te.

That was how he'd won Grandma--with his
     perfect figure eight,

And nmt !'dg:et to see it, 11ewas goin'
     to demonstrate.

I ran and got my racers, they were new
      an Christmas Day.

Grandpa had to hunt for his r there was some
      delay.

Then it was that Grandmawhispered low
     into my earl

"You'll learn. one thing for sure, son--
not to lean on all you heart-

! wondered what she meant, but there
      waen't time to think

'Cause Grandpa came back then and we
      started for the rink.

! noticed that his skates were kind of
      rusty and outdated;

But I guessed that didn't matter as gocxi
      as Grandpas ka.ted.
