The most exciting event on Our third day with Teddy was

Doctor Benson's casually driving over a small cliff into a very

muddy field. The car landed with a jo lt , We sat there rather

motionless in hysterical laughter , except for Teddy who jumped

out and lifted the back tires out of the mud without flinching.

After asking if he could drive, he backed the car up rapidly

to where the hill was only a slope and then onto the road very

confidently. It was as if he had been manipulating tractors

in the fields since childhood. He drove the rest of the day.

We found a youth hostel on Loch Marie fairly early that

evening. Teddy ate a meal large enough for a Black-Forest

grizzly bear. He accepted the dirty work around the hostel

with a smile, and once again played the harmonica until lights

out. You couldn't help liking Teddy. He was awfully friendly,

and honestly didn't seem to notice his silly illusions. They

seemed to come quite naturally to him without thought. Poor
Teddy.

On the last day with Teddy we traveled through the

mountains into southern Scotland. We stopped at noon to eat

at a little cafe which was located on the highest mountain in

the country. When we walked out of the cafe, Teddy looked

Over the valleys and woodland breathing a deep sigh. "How

I wish you could see Our hunting lodge. It looks quite a bit

like this. The only way you can get to it IS by 'copter. It's

really marvelous. I know you'd like it."

"Do you have carpeting, and butlers, and horses there
too?" Wendy looked Teddy straight in the eye with a very
serious expression.

Teddy smiled that big smile that you couldn't help smiling

right along with. "Well, as a matter of fact. . .. Let's go,

you silly, or we'll never make it to Glasgow."

We stayed in the hostel in Glasgow that night, but Teddy
had to leave so that he could be back in Belgium in two days.
He felt sure that he could get a good ride with all the trucks
going out of the city. We really hated to see him leave.

"Now please stop and see us on' your way through

Brussels. Here's my address and phone number. '1 don't

live too far out of town. Thank you very very much again,

and please stop on YOur. way back. II He picked Wendy up

sahnadke. gave her a big bear hug, then each of us a firm hand
