SWIMMING Small Team - Big Season What can one say about the wom- en's swim team that hasn't been said already? This was a team that had to contend with the volleyball team for WMC team of the year, Led by Seniors Lisa Kelvin and Sally Carlson, the wom- en's team went undefeated, finished second in the MAC Championship, third in the MAlA W meet, and eighth in the NCAA Championship in Boston The men improved a 3-10 record of last year to a 5-6 season this year. and finished ninth in the MAC Champion- ships. The men's team was led by Ju- nior Mike Price and the Hubach broth- ers. Kurt and Fred. Other contributors to the team included backstroker Paul Burkett and butterfly specialist Bill Llv- ingstone. Any discussion of swimming at WMC will invariably begin with Denise Frech In her first two seasons here, she com- piled seven All-American honors, This past year she added 5, She won these honors for the 50 yard breaststroke, the 100 yard breaststroke, the 200 yard breaststroke, and the 200 and 400 yard medley relay The eighth place national finish for the women was a step up from last year's twenty-first place, The highlight of the season was a 56-48 victory over Gettysburg College- the first in history. During that meet five pool records and five school records were broken. The highlight of the men's season was a 57-56 win over Swarthmore and their ninth place finish in the MAC Championship, with 24 points. The MAC finish was a noticeable improve- ment over last year Junior Mike Price led the team. He was particularly strong in the SO yard freestyle. The Hurbach brothers were strong in longer races, often finishing one-two in the some race 10<
