__ ----LECTORE AND CONCERT SERIES This year's Lecture and Concert series be- gan favorably when WMC was visited by for- mer U.S. senator and two time presidential candidate, Eugene McCarthy, who discussed the disadvantages of the two-party system, and the problems of third party candidates. Pianist Thomas Wright invited the campus to spend "An Evening with Gershwin," as he performed Gershwin's music while in the character of the composer. Comedian Mark McCollum had WMC rocking (and rolling) with laughter and appreciation of his skillful impressions of Elvis, Blondie, the Cars, John Denver, and "movie stars" Voda and Kermit. Diane Ramo f,. Co., a modern dance company, transformed Alumni hall's Understage into a dream world where the heroine/dancer was transformed by her encounters with the ere ments of "Water, Fire, Earth and Sky." Femi- nist Jane Galvin-Lewis spoke of the necessity of choices for women to be able to develop to their potentials. Not pictured, Maryland's Poet Laureate, Lucille Clifton, shared her work in a poetry reading co-sponsored by the English department. 18
