The 1970 WMC baseball team made believers out of many skeptics. Word had it in the beginning of the season that Coach Fern Hitchcock would have trouble fielding anything resembling a baseball team. What with the graduation of the Class of 1969 team which had played first-string since their Freshman year, and had won two Mason-Dixon titles on the way. The team promptly went out and won its first four in a row be- fore losing the 16-10 slugfes+ with Hampden-Sydney. With sophomore pitching ace Bob Merrey and a good- looking crop of Freshmen added to a few returning veterans, Coach Hitchcock once again came up with a winner. WMC went on another win streak-this time seven in a row-before losing to the Mason-Dixon Northern Division champs, Baltimore University. Never- theless, the team ended the season with a fine 15-5 record and an apparent good shot at the conference title next year. SCOREBOARD WMC. Susquehanna ... WMC. Susquehanna WMC. Washington WMC.
