The story behind this year's WMC wrestling team was they could just never get enough of a good thing. The thing they did was win, consistently and sometimes easily. For Coach Sam Case this season proved to be the triumphal culmination of five years of recruiting and plain hard work. Match after match Sam and the fans sat back and watched the Terror grapplers give opponents lessons in wrestling tech- niques until winning became routine. Four times they completely whitewashed the opposition. The high- light of the season came against the perennial Mason-Dixon wrestling powerhouse, Old Dominion. The Terrors proved they could be had as they han.ded Old Dominion its first Mason-Dixon defeat in ten years. This one went right down -to the wire. It took a win by heavyweight Leon Cronce to break a 16-16 tie and give WMC the victory. Only perfection could be expected at the end of a perfect regular season. The Terrors finished a strong first in the Mason-Dixon Championships. Ken Myers, Gary Scholl, Dick Schmer+zler. and Fred Kiemle won in their classes and no one placed lower than third. On a team full of individual stars, the most outstanding was junior co-captain Gary Scholl. Other outstanding grapplers were senior co-captain Terry Conover, Freshman Dick Schmertzler, and the heavyweight crowd pleeser. Leon (Hot Dog Stand) Cronce. 78
