The Gloaming, Oh My Darling Calling either playa theatrical masterpiece constitutes false appraisal. Instead the term "experiment" comes to mind. Meghan Terry's tale of old age, far from complete in its original form, provided a skeleton to which mimes and musicians were added. The job of filling out this basic construction reverted to the actors' imagination and a very rigid, well-rehearsed sup- plement of lines and movement. Skillful use of guitar, song and framed silhouettes generated an atmosphere reminiscent of the slow and lazy blues air of New Orleans. To some, the drama is synonymous with Olivier's Hamlet. To others it is an experiment, a new approach and redefinition of "Theatre," ever fresh and always changing. 57
