ESTERN MARYLAIID COLLEGE CLUB HOUSE Physical and Social Change Western Maryland College begins its second century with change. The physical change on campus is the most immediately apparent, but the social implications of these changes, though slightly less obvious, are equally important. Administration housing policy was intended to reserve the new residence halls, Rouzer and Whiteford, for freshmen and independents, with the idea of coordinating activities for these men and women outside the fraternity/sorority social framework. This policy met with much opposition from most of the women on campus who contended that housing should be on the basis of seniority. The merits of this system of providing an improved social life for non-affil- iated students have not offset the disadvantages of isolating freshmen from upperclassmen. The social opportunities outside the Greek system have not been significantly enriched, but there is hope.
