There's Always Next Year Would you believe that on any given day, this intrepid team can tie any team in the Mason-Dixon Conference? Or else lose? The 1966 soccer season brought with it many heartaches in the form of many losses-8 10 be exact. However, each defeat was encountered without disgrace and each opponent was encountered whole- heartedly and convincingly. There were times when freshman Bob Tawes and Larry Anderson were within inches of scoring, but couldn't; there were times when seniors Alain Derasse and Raphael Mayamona kept the opponents baffled with their footwork and linguistics; and there were times when senior co-captain Mike Waghelstein's long kicks soared goal-ward ... from all over the field. Sophomores Ken Nibali and Norm Sartorious played consistent defense for the Terrors-and they were con- sistently on defense! Seniors John Daily and Frank Winter also played well on defense--as a matter of fact, there were ti-mes when we all played on defense at once. There were times when Jfm Resau and Bob Speth couldn't hang onto the ball with their feet; and times when goalie co-captain Rick Coburn couldn't hang onto the ball no matter what he used! But the measure of inches and games won fails to equal the measure of sportsmanship and ambition dis- played by these ever-determined athletes. The trusty spectators know they tried ... and tried ... and tried. 50
