Realizing that he had "muffed" his oppor- tunity to gain citizenship, Ulysses prepared for a hasty departure. While Max helped him pack his things, they reminisced about past happy days, days of Dunster Poe's debut of Neonothingism, of water bombs and disappear- ing flag-pole ropes, days when chariots were out of commission due to heavy snows, and a time when portraits of late benefactors turned up in strange places. Sadly, Ulysses passed through the portal at Dianopolis only to be greeted by a mob of Dianopolitans led by Zeus himself. Expecting nothing short of annihilation, he learned that they had come to "honor, not to bury him." Congratulations were given him for sticking to his task, for burning down Old Parthenon, and thereby getting enough insurance money for building the Prudence Grunion Building. Cheered by members of the crowd, he was raised triumphantly onto their shoulders. In a grand finale the entire cast of this classic production proudly announced "We are the Class of '59; upon the Hill we'll always shine." Our Hero found his weakness ... And Scandalonius spread the news. 164
