It's strange feeling to wake up in Grand Central's parking lot
with some irate cabbie yelling at you. I paid the man off, and slid
through the crowd to the ticket window. I asked for a ticket to D.C.
and was told that the train was leaving any minute. Noting my uniform,
the clerk took off for a G. 1. discount and with a long line behind me
I sheepishly gathered my stuff and headed for the train platforms. I
ran down the first flight of steps I came to, and asked the baggage
man where the train for D.C. was, and he pointed to another platform.
I ran back up the stairs, fought my way to the right platform, down the
steps, and just as I reached the gate marked passengers only, I saw
the train clearing the station.
It's pretty quiet here now, even for Grand Central. The next train
leaves in two hours and seventeen minutes.
