THE DAMNED
Rest! skies of my mind,
Weary--oh god, weary
Thoughts flutter,
Batlike,
Across the dark night
Vainly searching
I lie sleepless.
Lazarus like,
I cannot join the dead --
Having no umbilical cord,
I cannot return to Womb.
The stars like dust above me lie . . .
One shines,
Leering;
Look-- that fire-hued One!
That IS mme
Evil eye!
Utterances,
Lightly whispered from the
Somewhere
Where that ill star rests,
Ooze sluglike across my mind.
Evil, Evil,
They breathe.
Ah! sigh the shades of Adams __
Oh! sigh the shades of Eves __
As serpents of desire
From small recessed corners of my mind
Hold grapes over the
Thirsting
Mouth of Tantalus.
We are the damned,
The forsaken __
Lost innocence,
Lost since taken,
Ravished,
Destroyed!
Once We were free
Lost goodness,
Now deflowered,
Sullied,
Deformed!
