was sort of an African stomp. The boy's name was Rudolph. and I
will only say that he looked like his name.

The one thing that saves me from pure death up here is "the
gang." Everybody on our hall (except for three girls who are beyond
all since they are so loaded that they do everything but wear mink to
classes-which reminds me, I need money!) has gotten together and
we're all terrific buddies now. Everybody meets in our room at night
and we talk and drink cokes and smoke for ages. Yesterday the trash
can caught on fire, but we put it out with a handy coke. The room
was smoked up for hours. The excitement did break the monotony
though.

Mother, there are a few things that I need for survival up here.
Please send these at once: 1) washcloths, 2) blue jeans, 3) food, and
4) money. The last two are the most important of all. The food up
here has only two distinctive features; hardness and coldness. And
there are no exceptions. We are all starving. I need money for every-
thing.

Please write soon. I'm living for Thanksgiving vacation.

P.S. Don't forget the money!

Dear Mom,

Thanks for a perfectly beautiful Christmas. It was just fabulous!
Really, everyone had a wonderful time. The night we got back
"the gang" got together and we all sat up until three o'clock talking
about our vacations. It was really terrific to see everyone again.
We're all studying for exams now. We're not doing too much

of it though, because we're afraid that if we study for too many sub-
jects at once, the facts may get confused in our minds. We've got a
study system all figured out for exam week though, and if it works,

we should do okay.
Mom, you know once you get to know these professors, some of

them are pretty neat. The other day I got to talking with one of

them, and it seems that he has been in our home town. So we had
"old home week" right there in the hall!! It was really something.

Remember when I said that I wanted to go to business school
and become a secretary. Well, I've decided against it. I don't think
I could ever sit still long enough to be a secretary. So, since I don't
