Self- Definition Interest and Service Groups Students at WMC have a variety of interests and concerns. There is a corresponding large number of organizations which center themselves around these interests. The WMC Pom-Pon Squad is a group of talented women who provide "dance performance during half-time entertainment" at Green Terror football games, according to leader Sally Hall. Their routines are always unique, fun to watch, and showcase the athletic ability of the squad's members. They make it a bit less tempting to head for the hot dog stand at half-lime. The Cheerleaders. on the other hand, work during the entire game, and not only for football. Captain Julie Esher says that the goal of the Cheerleaders is "to support Western Maryland College and its sports teams." Their spirited cheers, as well as death-defying pyramids, throws, and other gymnastic feats of daring make any sport more fun and exciting. While the Cheerleaders and the Porn-Pons are working on the field. WMCR, our campus radio station is working off the field. selling Football programs. This is one of the station's biggest fundraisers during the year, and it allows them to continue bringing the latest hits to campus. via the your AM dial, or channel 3. Working as a deejay can be a great outlet for overly stressed students. Finally. there are a great number of service groups on campus. One such group is C.A.R.E.. Children's Activities and Recreational Events. C.A.R.E. provides fun and wholesome activities for local children, and it serves "to increase the awareness in young children of college life." President Amy Luebenhuen says that, "by experiencing activities on a college campus, college will hopefully be a reality to [these children] in the future."
