DR. WILLIAM McCORMICK, JR During his ten years as the college's vice president and dean of academic affairs, Bill McCormick consistently provided leadership for the liberal arts concept of learning held by Western Maryland College. He can be cited for developing the January Term and expanding the international studies program, both of which encourage students to broaden their areas of interest and to develop their capacity for independent study. On May 20, 1983, Bill died after a brief bout with cancer. He is remembered by colleagues and former students as one of the college's finest educators, one who has left his mark on the Hill. He was a humane individual who cared about his family, his church and his fellow man, and his humaneness was reflected in his daily work. It is for these qualities and more, we are paying tribute to Dean William McCormick Jr Throughout their four years on the Hill, the class of 1983 greatly respected and appreciated him for his understanding and guidance. Not only has Dean McCormick left his mark on the Hill but he has also left his mark in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew him. ' 22
