BASEBALL 'We're Getting To Where We Want To Be.' When a team goes from 7-16-1 in 1981 to 12-8 in 1982, as the Western Maryland College Baseball team did. its hard to point to one reason for the change Steve James joined the team this year. He brought more to the squad than his team leading RBIproduction of 23. his .388 batting average, and his .987 feilding percentage at first base. He also brought a winning attitude and leadership ability Second baseman Dan Fielder was the team's leading hitter with a .443 average, He was voted MVP by his teammates. Third baseman Dave Yurcisin batted .440, was the run scoring leader with 20. and made just one error. Dave Hall batted .390, while Sam Kerns, a late inning replacement and occasional starter, batted .421. John Uebel anchored the outfield from center. He batted .360, was the homerun leader with 3, drove in 18 runs,and scored 17.He was flanked by Jody Walter in left. who batted .270 and drove in9 runs,and Vince DiRienzo in right. who batted .326 and made just two errors. Catcher Rich Johnson played in all 20 games, batted .358, hit 5 doubles and accumulated 12 RBI's. 'Goose' Gosnell led a mound staff that showed great improvement over 1981. Hurler Scott Antonelli was 5-0, and his earned run mark was 4.57. 118
