Delta Pi Alpha A group of theological students at the then WMC seminary, whose object was to "make just the unjust," started Delta Pi Alpha in 1925. Though the character of the membership deviated somewhat from its divine in- clinations, the nickname "Preachers" stuck. Deprived of a sister sorority's refining influence, the brotherhood began in 1957 to elect a Preacher Sweet- heart who reflects our feminine ideal. Miss Nancy Higdon is this year's Sweetheart. Our annual Parents' Day Ban- quet is another long-standing tradition, as is our yearly scholarship to a worthy freshman athlete to aid in buying books. We have instituted and are still developing a program within the fraternity to encourage academic suc- cess, with files of past tests made available to members and a scholarship chairman to aid pledges in their studies. Intramural and varsity sports feature many Preacher ath- letes as well as members who serve as captains of the football, soccer, wrestling, and track teams this year. We feel that our spirit of brotherhood, our honesty in personal and social relationships, and our progressive outlook make us one of the finest organizations on cam- pus, and that the wearing of the Purple and Gold is more than mere group identification. 1.
