In 1969, the Western Maryland chapter of the Student National Education Association (better known as S.N.E.A) deliberately set about to change its image. Beginning with the assumption that most WMC students do not know about S.N.E.A., president Gail Perrie scheduled activities designed to attract new members. Thus, meetings fea- tured a variety of subjects seldom covered in education classes; such as the ghetto child, and education among the Navajo Indians. With the twin objectives of increasing attendance and informing the audience, plans included a discussion by first semester student teachers and a top- rated popular movie with educational overtones. 119
