A "roaring wind" gave eady indication that unnter had descended upon the "Hill." With the fiTst blustering breezes, eyes turned heao- eruoard to await flutteTing flakes in the sky. The vigil was a long one, but finally snow came. Walking became hazardous due to con- ditions underjoot and ooerhead. Dusty sleds were dug out of storage for a tour of duty on the back-campus "hill." Another popular spot seeing plenty of action was the duck pond, where skaters improved their figures. The two weeks before the Christmas holiday were crammed with celebration. Every excuse seemed good enough for a party, and the air soon rang with Christmas spirit. Carpe Diem looked festive once more with evergreens cov- ering the evidence of a Hopkins visitation. Traditional activities and bedraggled Santa Clauses combined to instill a holiday mood in all. 1959 rang in, and the "Hill" echoed with holiday happenings. Newly acquired diamonds sparkled, lighting up rooms and faces and adding new subject matter for conversation. Then, suddenly, the exam schedule indicated that what had been the hazy future was the awful present. For many, the semester was a successful one, for others special "Valentines" were sent home, requiring evasive explanations of erroneous grading systems.
