LENA LOUISE SLOCOMB Home Economics "Lena" New Church, Va. Western Maryland Preparatory School Philomathean Literary Society; j. G. C.; Y. W. C. A. "I am not one who much or oft delights T 0 season my fireside wl:th personal tal~ Of friends, who live within an easy wal~, Or of my neighbors who are daily, wee~ly, in my sight." "T ENA," in the vocabulary of those who know her, means kindliness, sin' L cerity, friendliness. And here we have the makeup of an ideal char, acter. In her unassuming and gentle way Lena has piloted herself through seven years of college life; and, incidentally, into the very hearts of her associates. Quiet and demure though she may seem, at propel' provocation she has at her command a goodly supply of sarcasm. Only those, however, who are thoroughly deserving of it fall under its sting. Recently Lena has become interested in poetry; and, although she has majored in Home Ec, we are wondering whether her chief interest lies ifJ the study of Household Arts or is directed toward the improvisation of verse. With apologies to Emerson, she has coined for herself the motto: "Your wagon to a star-'Hitch.' " [l03}
