CONTRAST - 57

"These flowers are born from the souls of treasured beings. Such a shame,
though, that their bodies must live without such life."

The young woman felt her joy shrink and dissipate. She rushed back into her
home and swept through the halls, yelling out for her family. No voices were heard
in response, nor did any thuds of walking feet sound through the halls. The old man
chuckled with sickening pleasure at her disarray. He took a long last look at his gift
to the young woman, and as he tucked his hands in the pockets of his overalls, he
whispered gently to himself: "They call me a blessing. For upon my arrival garden-
ers always reap what they sow."
