As David Foster Wallace put it, “We’re all lonely for something
we don’t know we’re lonely for. How else to explain the curious
feeling that goes around feeling like missing somebody we’ve
never even met?” Unless you jump in and find out, you’ll never
know what it is you’re missing.
Special thanks to Charles Mullin, my co-editor—with-
out his help and assistance the magazine would not be possible;
to Dr. Kathryn Dobson, an excellent teacher and club advisor
who has provided me with the encouragement I needed since
sophomore year with Approaches to Discourse; to Dani Allen
for her mad graphic design skillz; to Ed Lasher, last year’s edi-
tor, who has also provided me with advice and encouragement
throughout my involvement in Contrast; Dr. Robert Kachur, who
has advised me through the English Major these past four years,
rain or shine; Clara Burgess, an invaluable friend and a constant
source of inspiration; to the editorial board staff, art board, and
proofreaders who dedicated their time and energies to the read-
ing, critique and discussion of submissions; and finally to the
aspiring writers and artists who contributed their work, keeping
the creative spirit alive—I thank you all and hope you enjoy this
year’s edition of Contrast Literary Magazine.
