Daylight blinded us as the flap
flew open, and savage
war cries and hands clapping
on mouths
frightened us as the boys
ran with high-knees
through one side
and out the other,
naked, scattering creamer and saucers
and ruining everything.
Indignant, we hiked
our petticoats
and dashed
in to tell Mom Mom.
Homemade dills soothed
us, satisfied that a wooden spoon
awaited them.
