Serenade
Ben Johnson
the Raven Kill
the Raven shrieks a warning, wasted
since i don't understand her language;
overhead the gray sky leaks her frigid tears,
chilling stragglers and passers-by rushing toward
the warmth within.
someday seems a long way away,
and when the suffering comes what will matter
who was predator or prey?
in our tomorrows we'll be paying for all our yesterdays-
when we didn't see that love was not rational.
the Raven shrieks a warning, wasted
the things you come upon by accident,
once i lay in dust and ashes, but now who is in here?
i say i am and everyone's gone,
so i swim the seas of the moon
the dead moon seas-i float weightless,
without a heart-the Raven's Kill:
pecked lifeless in the room where we slept.
