CONTRAST 1989
Les Feuilles
En automne les feuilles sont mortes,
elles tombent et dansent.
Vertes et jeunes
rouges et brunes
ensemble
Elles sont ravissantes.

Elizabethans enjoyed it a lot
This verse form did Shakespeare work out in
rhymes
Some people can write them and some cannot
The tenses are tricky and words don't fit
And fourteen lines is an awful lot
The words are archaic; the rhymes too thick
Some people can write them and some cannot
The subject was sex and passion and lust
The morals were questionable at best
But stick to the olden subjects we must
Though we'd rather give love poetry rest
And then at the bottom for reasons unknown,
An heroic couplet ends the long poem.
