STAPLEFORD HALL DRIVE
spiritless daughters of fashionable fathers
are always making pies
for mother's idle chatter
to help receive and deceive
praise and caste,
respectively
victims of conspicuous consumption
lay strewn in fluffy, disorganized systems:
arranged and rearranged
each day
to keep in time with the sophists
who knock on the doors of the wary
(eyes of the pursued sometimes lose their alertness)
and it was in one house,
in one white and santized kitchen,
that the barrel once broke
to pour forth
its well-concealed laughter.
