TENSION
There's a tension
Between seasons
When freeze and thaw
Play hopskotch
On the lawn
Like foolish playmates
Daring not to
Bid "hello," "goodbye"
Clinging
To the last stubborn clod
Or hibernating tree.
There's a tension
That mounts
As spring progresses
Until somehow
The icy grip is broken
And life awakens
With a graceful yawn
That makes
The longest memory
Forget that winter
Ever was.
