Elijah, Eat Your Heart Out;
The Waiting is Almost Over.
Jesus Christ
has a sister,
chosen from surely thousands of ladies
to fall down
and rise up
here, in this Age of Miracles.
People are waiting for
seaside sermons, you know,
wine jug weddings,
fish and chips for the children,
a white-robed stranger
dropping parables like seeds
along dusty and stone-strewn
hot concrete roads.
Fully sure that this vision
will make me a prophet,
I'm betting she'll write poetry
pick up a few close followers
wait till she's thirty
and publish.
-K. P. Beam
It was a young meadow, fresh
thin bladed, polished,
pea-green
a jade of meadows.
Soft melting dew on a rose
speckled dawn
Sun speckled
dawn written down, blue skyed
hooked after
and the light
deep mellow, brown lucious, green
eyes, you
look to me and I pray
for spring.
