This gluttonous thing
devours my dimes
in its thin slit mouth
ever-open in mockery.
After prodding
its digits with my digits,
it responds
in dogmatic disrespect.
(It was programmed by
our hands to do that?)
It whirs a while and
spits out bits of half-spoken words
mangled in static.
(remnants of someone I once knew)
I realize I must respond
to such obscure excretions
ringing in my ear,
(rather than be a spitoon)
for everything that I dare to do
is registered in nickels and dimes.
Impersonal piece of plastic
It's tragic that you have
SUch a monopoly on my life
An the plans that I ingest
depend on your diet.
