SONG OF THE WATCHER
I walk a land of empty hills
Within a dying light
Against the sky a sentinel
Tireless, tall and straight,
For out of loneliness I came
And into darkness-go
I am a weary watcher
Beneath the cool stars' glow.
Oh, stark the hills that trace
Their edge against the sky;
No voice is here but the long grass leans
Before the wind and sighs
While through the swiftly falling night
Come faintly battle cries.
Oh, out of loneliness I came
And will return to far
And lonely solitude
A sentinel of stars.
But when. the Powers of Darkness fall
And the slow war is won;
When light encompasses the world
And vigilence is done
I'll find another' universe
Lit by dying suns.
For out of loneliness I came
And into darkness go.
I have no friend but crying wind
Beneath the cold stars' glow.
