t? playa poor hand well." He is also a believer in the cycle theory of
life. Again to put it in his words, "Everything comes in cycles. There

was a time when I wanted to fly a kite and play with a ball Then, I

wanted to drink and fight. Now, all I want is a few hours sleep,
enough food so that I'm not hungry and my bowels to move once a
day." He also has a good prescription for marriage. "You can spend
your whole paycheck, get drunk and come home and beat your wife.
But never take on another woman. She'll never forgive you for that."

During his life, Captain Nick has made a great deal of money in
the stock market. He says that there are three things that a man needs
to make money in the stock market ... patience, courage and money.
His theories may be a little too simple, but they have a great deal of

sense in them.
There is a great deal more about Captain Nick that I am not

capable of putting into words. He has to be seen to be truly appreci-
ated. If Captain Nick had been born one thousand years ago, some
o.ne would have written an epic poem about him. However, he lives
s~mply quietly in Dennisport. Massachusetts. But, that's the way he

hkes it.

WIND.WHIPPED

The strands of life blow back and forth

In front of me,
Like willow branches in a storm-

And I, trembling, stand aside,

Turning my face away
From the furious whipping streaks

Until the whirling tempest

Thrusts me forth,

And in despair
I clutch a swinging branch
And I too am blown back and forth

In the wild, intoxicating rhythm

Of the storm. MARY HENDREN
