SWOOSH! Claudia says it as she pression The 1990-91 WMC Women's Basketball fights for the ball. season was in lack of team members, with only eight, but was filled with wins and en- thusiasm. The team, coached by Becky Martin for her 10th year, had surprised many by compiling a record of 11-12, With only four returning players and two returning starters, the women's team shocked its op- ponents with an entirely new outlook. The leadership of the two returning start- ers and co-captains, Alice Smith and Angie Alfano. built a strong bond among the play- ers, which influenced the team's perform- ance on the court. Smith had the best sea- son of her career. finishing second in re- bounding, with a 5,2 average, and third in scoring, with an 8.2 average, Thelone senior finished her career with a bang by scoring game highs of 11 pts .. 17 pts .. and 20 pts. The Green Terrors' other captain, Angie Alfano. averaged 10.2 paints and 4,5 re- bounds per game. Alfano dished out 74 as- siststo become 6th on the Green Terror list, with a total of 164 assists.The team's big- gest addition came from junior guard Deb- bie Shockley, Shockley transferred from Di- vision I American University and topped the team in scoring and rebounds, with an av- erage of 18.4 points and 8 rebounds per game. Inaddition, Debbie set a school single season record for assists(101), steals (129), total field goals attempted (459), 3-pt. field goals made (54). and a-ct. attempts (147). The most memorable moment for the team had to be the celebration in front of John Hopkins' bench after defeating the guests by 14 pts.! Awesome season Terrors, good luck next year!
