Your speech, And your signs, Are your identity, Your life. Black and white. Nothing can be simpler. But Have you forgotten Those subtle shades of grey That lie between? Have you forgotten That I too have an identity? That I have grown tired of making those endless explanations Of what I can and cannot hear. Of being who I am not. I listen to your tapes of Bill Cosby Your records, and radios. / laugh when you laugh But I have no idea of what was so funny. You explain You turn up your radios You raise your voice But it is too late. The spontaneity of the moment is lost As the sounds that come to my ears Are lost in distortion. And / become deaf Angry Frustraded . My needs Washed by the tides of misunderstanding And / question 'why'? Your signs And Your speech. Between two worlds And no answer to the 'why' . Kristal L.
