The deaf education program is an integral part of Western Maryland. There are several deaf students attending WMC. Although they cannot hear, they are able to express their emotions with words. NOONE KNOWS. Noone knows. Why the eagles soar Or the sun shines Why the ocean is wicked And dangerous Yet beautiful and abundant. Why we are witness the changing of the seasons Of man's neverending questioning To the 'why's' of life. Noone knows. Why we are so different Our souls holding mysteries known only to the beholder Why we can never really know each other Why we are capable of love Of hate Of pain and suffering And of knowing happiness. Noone knows. Why I am 'J' And you are 'you' And why we are not each other Instead. Why I am hard of hearing And you are not. Why you don't understand this Nor seek to understand. But then How could you? You are hearing And You, over there, are deaf I am neither. But I long for the same understanding The same acceptance That your two worlds have For yourselves, And for each other. 122
