To have been designated by the W.M_C. students as being a person who is "unique" and therefore worthy of appearing in the "1978 Yearbook is a signal honor, and I appreciate the compliment whatever the connotation of the word may mean. I am happy to be considered "unique" Being genuinely fond of young people- Seeing them as growing adults - Respecting their individual personalities- Having opportunities to share their concerns- Realizing thai they are iull of the energy and joy of life- Enjoying their periods of gaiety and silliness- Sharing the warmth of their friendship After 42 years of contact with college students here at W.M.C I find them today to be, as the old saying goes "the more they change, the more they are the same" Perhaps that is why I feel no age barrier in our relationship Indeed, I hope and believe that my young friends will never change from one student generation to another, and that they will always retain their basic and their sense of fair play, their flashing smiles and good humor, and their enthusiasm and zest for My memories of the college will seldom be of the in the college, but rather of the hundreds of students with whom I have shared the intimate of making music, and of so many others whose friendship has always been a delight and a fond recollection Alfred "Prof" De Long
