Despite the loss of key men during the season, the Western Maryland lacrosse team posted its first winning record in its varsity lacrosse his- tory. Lack of midfield depth definitely hurt the team. The first night lacrosse game at Western Maryland proved a success in both score and attendance. The team was aided by the outstanding in- dividual contributions of sophomore et+eckmen Ron Athey and goalie Ron Cristy, who stepped into the vacated position this year. The de- fense was led by the play of first year senior John Heisler. Only two seniors will be lost and with the help of upcoming underclassmen, bar- ring more injuries. the team looks forward to an undefeated season next year. In June, due to his fine play all year, Ron Athey was named to 2nd Team, All-Maryland at his attack position. 93
