The 1969 soccer season started off as a blur but ended strong for WMC. The team dropped the first four by small margins but came back with six wins in a row, and a final game tie with Johns Hopkins. The season hit a peak against Mt. St. Mary's when WMC won its fourth straight 5-2, and high scoring forward Ron Athey booted three goals within a period of three min- utes. The Terrors continued their hot streak manhandling Gettysburg College 9-0. The assault was led by Eugene Lindsay, who socked in four goals. Led by senior captain Bob Tawes and junior captain Alan McCoy, Western Mary- land achieved its second straight winning season in soccer. It was a year where the team played exceptionally well together and not as a group of individuals. It was this team spirit that Coach Earll attributed to this year's success. Many of the players received post-sea- son honors in the Mason-Dixon, Middle Atlantic, and All-South selections. Sopho- more Athey was first team Mason-Dixon, Middle Atlantic, and All-South. Tawes and Bill Schwindt were second team Mason- Dixon and Middle Atlantic, while McCoy was honorable mention.
