American Association of University Professors The American Association of University Professors was founded in 1915 as the only national forum for teachers in institutions of higher learning. Western Maryland's AAUP is chairmanned by Dr. Donald Jones. The group has 53 members out of a potential 70 full-time faculty members. The biggest project of the group this year has been a program initiating new faculty members to the Hill. At- tempts are made to understand WMC better through dis- cussions on the role of the church related liberal arts college, curriculum changes, and questioning the admis- sions and standards committee's relation to minority students. The AAUP is not only concerned about its own relationship to the administration but it has helped stu- dents by advocating a Faculty Affairs Committee with all levels represented. Western Maryland's faculty is also active off of the Hill. Dr. Ray Phillips is chairman for the Area Conference AAUP and the local chapter supported Towson State Col- lege in its difficulties with the governor. In the day of increased demand for co-operation the American Association of University Professors could pro- vide a valuable ally of students' quests for answers on policy from the administration.
