For Everyone: Student Opportunities Service Yes, 50S is still very much a part of Western Maryland College, or better still ; yes, Western Maryland Col1ege is still very much a part of 50S. Either way, the Student Opportunities Service is growing bigger and better each new year, as it constantly renews, reorganizes, and replenishes itself. The 505 program this year extended from four small communi- ties in Puerto Rico to a tiny patch of Appalachia in Panther, West Virginia. The largest team ever sent on an 50S summer venture (21) encountered its share of problems: lack of suitable arrange- ments for homes, garbage, burned-out brakes, obstinance and con- fusion, garbage, no money, garbage, conflicts, and of course, gar- bage. Now this may sound like a lot of garbage, but it isn't. For 50S is so many more important things, too: a labor day jubilee, community organization, an effective leadership program, and even adopted sons and daughters. Yes, 50S is everything from rats to rainbows and much, much more. 119
