Argonauts Analagous to the quest of Jason and the Argonauts for the Golden fleece, the academic honor society on campus continues its quest for truth through pursuit of knowledge. Many of the Argonauts dedicate themselves solely to their studies, while others display the versatility of participating in extra- curricular activities as well, but all of them excel academically. Interested not only in personal excellence but also in overall high stand- ards, the Argonauts sponsored the sorority and fraternity scholastic cup in an attempt to provide incentive for study on a social campus. During the SGA Snow Carnival, they constructed the erudite owl who gazed out of black spectacles upon passing academic dissenters in solemn reprimand. Second semester the group honors new eligibles with the Argonaut tea, the social highlight for the campus intelligentsia. Faculty and students mingle as colleagues, and brownies are always served. Receiving an invitation to the tea is almost as exciting as receiving a treasured sorority or fraternity bid. The members also treat themselves to an annual banquet, where the Monday morning assembly speaker is invited to give a stimulating talk of high-brow pertinence. 133
