EXHIBIT ROOM ... Dr. William A. MacDonald and Miss Mary Louise Shipley of Western Maryland's Art De- partment are making a commendable attempt to keep Western Maryland aesthetically abreast of the times through the medium of the new exhibit room, which was opened last spring with a show- ing of the works of contemporary Maryland artists from the permanent collection of the Baltimore Museum. Some of the subsequent exhibits have featured examples of native African art from the collec- tion of Mr. Albert Blum of Baltimore, and paint- ings and sculpture by Karl Metzler, also of Baltimore. This heroic torso, executed in wood, was the center of attention at the Karl Metzler show in late February. Portrait and model . . . student exhibit, 1953. Carved ivory chalice, early 17th cent.ury, from the col. lection of Albert W. Blum. 99
