her life, she was the one in front of the mirror in a wedding dress,
and she turned faster and faster.
The woman in the mirror had returned, but Maggie didn’t
mind. They were spinning together, three reflections of Maggie,
and three of the other. They spun in perfect synchronized unison,
until the woman had come so close to Maggie that she was Mag-
gie, they were one and the same, and they were beautiful.
Maggie felt light enough to lift herself into the air, and
when the veil descended over her face again, she did not fight it,
but welcomed it as an old friend.
They would find her there later, cold as ice, the shimmering
organza gown splayed out around her, but as for Maggie, Mag-
gie was content, with the veil’s whisper-light caresses tugging at
her breath, to twirl further and further away.
