Canvas Green And Sunflower Stories
(Utterances on the Road to Sleep)

He speaks.

" ...and I remember these things
             from my childhood ...
                  once forgotten

a place I used to live
              where the sunflowers grew
                  tall and mighty

        stalks of hearty glory and
               bursts of nature's sunglow
raging with some kind of beautiful horror ...
                  beautiful horror ...

        running among them
             with them
                  between them

        I breathed like a
                          madman

              and played in their arms
kissed by their sweet rough greeness

...of course, I was always afraid of their black centers ..."

He sleeps.
