A Spectacular Way to Die
by Denis A. Kovalsky
If ever I have to die, I hope the manner grand,
And not to die of sunstroke while sleeping in the sand;
But instead fall out a window and into a busy street,
And like a cat thrown in the air, to land upon my feet.
Then say to all the motorists and all the passersby-
"Did you see that-now wasn't that a spectacular way to die?"
If ever I have to die, I hope it is a thrill,
And not to die from taking an extra sleeping pill;
But to leave the road at 'ninety,' while running a quarter-mile,
And like a kid on a circus ride, enjoy it all the while.
Then say to all the men-folk and the women as they cry-
"Did you see that-now wasn't that a spectacular way to die?'
If ever I have to die, I hope it will be great,
And not to lie there dreaming when I finally meet my fate;
But to be caught in a windstorm and swept into the air,
And like a dog that no one claims, be deposited here-and there,
Then say to all that find me while on the ground I lie-
"Did you see that-now wasn't that a spectacular way to die?"
Though I think that life's worth living
And living's worth it all,
I realize Time is given
And someday Death will call;
But if we all were sleeping
When taking our final breath,
No one would notice the leaving
And we'd all be bored to death.
